My Rush Hour Has Arrived!

No one I know epitomizes Rush Hour better than my twenty-one year-old granddaughter.  She is a college student who also works 32 hours per week as a cocktail waitress at a large casino resort.  She works from 6 PM to 2 AM, then RUSHES to 8 AM classes, then back to work at 6 PM.  Since both school and work are about 40 minutes from home (and each in a different town), she spends a lot of time in her car.  And, it looks like she actually lives in her car.  It greatly resembles a large blue trash can strewn with remnants of fast food meals, multiple uniform and clothing changes, college books and papers, ....and a Rubik Cube??  I thought about posting a photo of the interior of her car, but decided it was too depressing.

I purchased only one yard of Rush Hour fabric and combined it with the aptly named "aspirin dot" print...always need aspirin for those Rush Hour headaches.  The remainder of the black, white and grey fabrics were left from The Ghastlies Hop.  And, of course, my Quilts of Valor stash always yields red fabric.

First a divided organizer box:

A bag to rush off to the gym with...."aspirin" print on the back side:
A coffee cup cozy for a strong espresso...lined with Insulbrite to help hold in the heat:

And, finally a ruffled wristlet keychain.

All packed and ready to go:

BUT, as I was carrying this out to her little blue car, I noticed my own little car....
Sorry, Kat, this car organizer kit belongs in my car.

Thank you Carol at Just Let Me Quilt and Madame Sam at Sew We Quilt for making this blog hop possible.  Lots of fun.

Please visit the rest of our Rush Hour participants and tell them what you think about their projects.

  3. I am sure you had your granddaughter jumping with excitement until she read the last. I can see a pretty blue set in her future. Either that or you will never hear the end of it. Very cute set of projects. :)

  6. I was relating to your story of your granddaughter living in her car. Living in a car has been the story of my life. I was thinking how my grandmother must have thought the same thing about my car when I was in college and how I wish she would have thought to make me an organizing system. Maybe she DID...lol Love it. Your right, it will look fantastic in YOUR car. Maybe it's time to think blue... Thanks for the smiles.

  29. Love the idea of a divided organizer for the car. I think when your granddaughter sees this you will need to stitch one in a color to match her home-on-wheels. Very creative project ideas.

I love how yours turned out and know that if you make one for your very busy granddaughter, she will love it. Thanks for sharing your creations with us today and for being a featured project. :-)

  37. You are going to make one for her, right? It's great. Thanks for sharing.

  38. Your quilt bag/car bag is perfect. Marlene made one similar so I suppose I will have to get over my fear of making bags (I know...silly) and make one for my Trailblazer. I just cleaned my SUV today and a bag would cut down on the front seat clutter. Trailblazers don't have a lot of console room.
    Nice job!!

  48. love all your projects and I agree they belong in your car. ;P

  49. I like the gym bag. Your sweet Kat will like any of your fabric colors as you surprise her. What a busy gal! She could use one color to grab for her college books, another for her car trash bag in your divided bag (or from a stitch in time ~ http://www.craftsy.com/pattern/sewing/home-decor/pretty-trash-bag/110339), and as a "I love you, Gram" bag for her clothes change. You make me smile! How sweet. Kathleen ~ Lane Hill House lanehillhouse[at]centurylink[dot]net

Well, Kat, there's always Christmas!! hahhaa

I know what she's going through so well. My college days sound very familiar, except I had 3 part time jobs to make that 36hrs - but that's the time to do crazy stuff like that, when you're young! Good luck to Kat, and grandma, get on that Christmas gift lol.
